Ironically So

July 4, 17:45 hrs, Eastern Standard Time

The rain is pounding the glass windows. Will there be fireworks tonight?
“Let’s check the website. There must be an update.”
“Turn on the weather bulletin…”
“Call up someone who is already at the venue…”
“Hey, let’s rush, or we will miss it…!”

In the vicinity of the “egg” at the Emprire State Plaza, people are all gathered in rainwear and jackets. The umbrellas show up once every few minutes. The mood is mercurial. The evening chill is rife with speculation.
We are standing, facing a tall building. Displayed at the top, is the name of one of the better-known supermarkets (event sponsor, probably). No banners and special effects. It just involved some clever play of lights at the top floors inside the building.

Back to the ground level. To our right are some food stalls. We walk up to one of them and ask for French fries. The price sort of sent us into frenzy. A ridiculous $4 per serving!! As we tried to gulp down the overpriced fries, I look up again at the cleverly-lit name, this time with a pang. *PRICE CHOPPER, it gleamed from the building!

“Want some sauce?”
“Yes please, and I could do with some black pepper and salt too.”

* A supermarket chain in USA, popular for its attractive pricing and savings schemes on groceries.
